Friends are born, not made

For those of us who belong to the ‘Sholay’ generation, the below song sums up friendship best………… ‘yeh dosti hum nahin thodenge…..thodenge dum Magar tera saath na chodenge……’ For truly what is life without friends……blessed are those of us who have friends for life………Friendship is the one thing that truly transcends all barriers of caste, creed, age, geography, gender, economic status and more importantly time gaps. The beauty of friendship lies in the fact that every other relationship that you have whether husband and wife, brother and sister, kids and parents, boss and subordinate is ultimately transformable to friendship which is the base to keep it going strong. Even if you have one person whom you can call in times of a distress without having to think twice, feel blessed. Even if there is one person who calls you in times of distress feel happy that you are considered in this category.
Ever noticed that you don’t choose your friends, they just happen to you. You don’t have to worry when you are with friends since you just have to be yourself and they love you for what you are. Strangely it is also not necessary that friends should share similar interests, so don’t break your head trying to figure out what it is that drew you to each other in the first place. Friends are just God’s way of assuring us that he is around to take care of us. Just try and start counting your blessings (I mean friends :), and if you are lucky you will see that you actually have a big basket to which you kept adding across your lifetime- school, college, neighbours, cousins, colleagues  etc. You also realize that you have not lost out on earlier ones just because you added new ones-there is space for all on this ship :). It really is a case of the more the merrier.
Another interesting thing that I noticed is that just by being together, you don’t get to become friends, not necessarily. There is something that brings you together and keeps it going. Your troubles are reduced and your joys increased just because you can talk about it to someone. This is one ship that doesn’t sink so easily despite low maintenance :) (I mean, in today’s rat race think of the times when you have called your friends just to say hi without any agenda). So all of you my friends out there, you are never really out of mind, even if you are out of sight and out of range !! Keep this ship sailing, for I am enjoying the cruise, especially when you held my hands when the sea was turbulent and I could have easily gone overboard and you did not let go………………………. Wishing you all a Happy Friendship Day….. and a big Thank You just for being there!

October - My Favorite Time Of The Year !!!!!

26 th Oct 2011, exactly 5 years ago on this day, it was Diwali and life put me face to face with my biggest ever Diwali dhamaka in the form of a breast cancer diagnosis. One mastectomy and 6 chemo sessions later here I am 5 years and still counting. Frankly despite awareness, society still does not look at cancer differently especially here in India. If you declare that you have cancer, then it is like people around you are counting the days and you have all their sympathies. It appears that everybody has lost someone or the other in the fight against cancer. So the general belief still is that survival rates in cancer are pretty less and dismal whereas the truth is that each and every case is totally different and survival is dependent on many factors, the most important one being that of a positive outlook, a ‘I will not give in, come what may’ attitude and a general belief in self and the treatment one undergoes. Forever NIITian

There is always a next time, they say, but I am not sure about it. So, I was one of those who felt bad having missed out on the ReUNIITe 1.0. For one reason or the other, it was looking like I might have to miss this one too, however, I kept telling myself that this time, I am gonna make it happen.
